CAMP LEATHERNECK, Afghanistan
Gen. John A. Toolan, commanding general of II Marine Expeditionary Force (Fwd) assumed command of Regional Command Southwest in a ceremony on March 26 2011. Toolan assumed responsibility for operations in Helmand and Nimroz provinces from General Richard P. Mills.
Mills was the first U.S. Marine to lead a NATO regional command in combat, and successfully commanded RC Southwest, which oversees International Security Assistance Forces in Southwestern Afghanistan.
