Command of 1st MARDIV Changes Hands

In a change-of-command ceremony outside of 1stMARDIV headquarters, Maj. Gen. Mike Regner assumed command from Maj. Gen. Richard Mills, who is serving as commander of I Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward) and Regional Command-Southwest in Afghanistan.

The Marine Corps Times reports:

Regner has been serving in Afghanistan as International Security Assistance Force-Joint Command’s deputy chief of staff for joint operations. His command tours include the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit at Camp Pendleton and 2nd Battalion, 8th Marines, at Camp Lejeune, N.C. Other notable assignments include legislative assistant to the commandant and operations officer with I MEF in Iraq.”

General Mills took command of the Division in May 2007, deployed to Iraq in October to serve as both the assistant division commander and as commander of ground combat forces with Multinational Forces-West in Anbar province.

He returned to Camp Pendleton in January 2009 and served as assistant division commander before resuming command of the division in July 2009.
